Dominique Rooney BIO
A native Angeleno, born and raised in Hollywood, California...Dominique was born into a very diverse and talented family. Her father, Teddy Rooney, a child star and musician featured in It Happened To Jane with Doris Day and Jack Lemmon in 1959. Her fraternal grandparents, entertainment icons Mickey Rooney and Martha Vickers are Hollywood royalty, her grandfather known for his roles in Andy Hardy, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, National Velvet, Pete’s Dragon and Bill which he won an academy award and an Emmy. Her grandmother known for her appearances with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in The Big Sleep. Raised by her maternal grandparents, at the age of two she was already grandma’s little helper. With Greek/Italian/Spanish and Irish heritage and a four star chef trained in French cuisine as a grandfather, her international palate started very early.
At 14, she became a fresh face for Elite Models, New Faces. Traveling through Europe and Asia while studying food and dining at world class restaurants, she worked as a model and appeared in major magazines, runway shows and commercials across the US, Europe and Japan. Tired of make-up and traveling she decided to get her hands dirty with a bit of acting to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps. After attending the Joanne Baron Acting Academy, she attended her very first audition and nailed an Aaron Spelling pilot called University Hospital at twenty two years old.
Stepping away from modeling and acting, Dominique decided to take her traveling, love for fine cuisine and international culinary discoveries and follow her true passion.
Getting her self-taught training from her travels and her mentors, Vernon Cardenas (Restaurateur/chef/judge-Master Chef) and Sima Hiroshi of Innovative Dining Group as well as world acclaimed Los Angeles fine dining restaurants and award winning chef’s such as Campanile’s, Mark Peel & Nancy Silverton’s (La Brea Bakery), Joe Miller at Joe’s Restaurant in Venice, California and Todd Davies in Sonoma County. Dominique decided that the high-pressure, creativity and intense atmosphere of a kitchen is where she wanted to be.
Falling in love with Asian cuisine during her seven year extended stays as a model, in South-East Asia she became chef de cuisine for Kina restaurant, a Korean owned, Asian fusion restaurant in Manhattan Beach focusing on Japanese food with European flair and moved on cracking live Lobster’s at The Palm Downtown Los Angeles. She went on to establish her own catering company, and became a celebrity chef, cooking privately for celebrities such as Julia Robert’s, Mathew Maconahay and Alanis Morrissette.
Taking another break from cooking Dominique created FOOD MEETS FASHION, an advertorial page that focused on luxury affluent living and everything food related. Her page appeared in Harper’s Bazaar & Genlux Magazine.
Dominique moved to Sonoma County in 2009 displaying her talents and experience in American and Asian multi-cultural cuisine, French, Spanish, Italian and Mediterranean technique's at Sonoma Cider in Healdsburg and Cork's Restaurant at Russian River Vineyards. In 2013, Dominique appeared on the hit new series, CUTTHROAT KITCHEN on THE FOOD NETWORK https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3nfyqz and soon came up with her idea for her blog, URBAN URTH.
Bringing her life’s experience full circle, Chef Dominique is an environmentalist an soon to be a certified nutritionist. She continues to share her experiences and talents throughout the culinary industry.
Focused on learning organic farming techniques and living a healthy, active, sustainable lifestyle, her goal is to guide others to learn from her experiences.
